Mammography

Many women know that mammography is the first kind of test that will be done after they have done a breast self exam and found lumps or abnormalities in their breast tissue. Since many women rely so heavily on mammography, it’s important that the test results be 100% reliable. This is one of the reasons that digital mammography has recently become so popular among hospital technicians and general practitioners. Having the right equipment is what makes mammography jobs satisfying because the right equipment means the right diagnosis. Of course, centers that have made a few incorrect diagnoses know that these have greatly hurt their center’s reputation and even their economical situation.

While some incorrect diagnoses come from things like shadows in mammography, there are also other problems that can pop up and make diagnosis difficult. Newer developments in mammography include cad mammography although a lot of health practitioners find the architectural distortion in mammography very difficult to work with. Many practitioners are into digital versus analog mammography because of the advanced features that it brings to the medical practice. Many certified mammography facilities use digital cad mammography to get the most modern views on mammograms available with today’s technology.

For Technicians

Technicians know that continuing education in mammography is necessary to stay on top of the instruments in use in the field. Digital mammography education is available for technicians and doctors in many areas of the country at extremely reduced rates. Such mammography continuing education courses are not only recommended for those who work closely with mammography, in many cases it is required in order to keep certification current. In many areas of the country, there are also mammography education online options through which technicians and doctors can keep their knowledge of the field up to date.

While some knowledge, like mammography history does not change, the knowledge about the tools and software available in the field does change all the time. In order to keep up with the changes, courses and education are required to stay current on more than the basics of the history of mammography.

For Women

Women should be doing self-checks as they have always heard is a good idea and should also check into their health insurance coverage for mammography to make sure that they will be covered when they need to have mammograms done. Whether a woman suspects a problem or needs annual mammograms, either exam should be covered by good health insurance.
