Conventional Treatments
Any woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer will tell you that the majority of the doctors that they see are more likely to prescribe conventional treatments than newer, more holistic and more alternative treatments for breast cancer. When it comes to the doctor’s orders, doctors are simply much more likely to recommend what is tried and true than to recommend going with something that is new and not yet fully established. A newer breast cancer treatment that has been found to work for a few women will have to be extensively evaluated before every doctor in the U.S. will start to think of it as a viable option.
The bottom line s that conventional treatments for cancer and other maladies have been tested to a large extent and most doctors are more comfortable with this sort of option than they are with a different, newer alternative option. Doctors recommend what has the highest chances of working with the fewest side effects, and that is one of the ways that conventional treatments continue to get recommended over and over again.
Balancing The Scales
Conventional treatments for breast cancer are considered to be very effective without having a long list of detrimental side effects. Anyone who has been through chemo will be quick to tell you that the treatment is very difficult on the body; however, most women are more than willing to go through chemo because they know that it is one of the conventional treatments for cancer that is known to be highly effective. Despite its very difficult side effects, many women take this to be the best option simply because it has the highest chances of actually working.
Negative side effects occur with many conventional treatments. This is one of the accepted things in western societies. In more holistic medical realms, where alternative therapies are common, the side effects are fewer and less drastic, but for western medicine, par for the course is to have a treatment that is pretty effective, albeit accompanied by a few undesired side effects.
Alternative Treatments
Many doctors do not like to recommend alternative treatments because they usually have a lower chance of working than do more conventional treatments. The upside is that alternative treatments frequently have fewer side effects and do not cause such difficult times for the body. If you are interested in alternative treatments, but your doctor does not recommend them, do a little research on your own to find out if there might be an alternative treatment out there for you.
